"the entertainer" is a 1902 classic piano rag written by scott joplin. One of the classics of ragtime , it returned to international prominence as part of the ragtime revival in the 1970s, when it was used as the theme music for the 1973 oscar -winning film the sting. Composer and pianist marvin hamlisch 's adaptation reached #3 on the billboard pop chart and spent a week at #1 on the easy listening chart in 1974. music The sting was set in the 1930s, a full generation after the end of ragtime's mainstream popularity, thus giving the inaccurate impression that ragtime music was popular at that time.

"the entertainer" is sub-titled "a rag time two step", which was a form of dance popular until about 1911, and a style which was common among rags written at the time. Scott joplin was the first classically trained black composer to become a household name in america. Ragtime was eventually succeeded by jazz.

“play something i’ve heard of,” a cry i often hear from elderly family members who are less than impressed with my roy smeck imitations. The fact is, no matter how technically adept you are, most people want to hear something they’ve heard a million times before. I suspect that, after ripping through the 24 caprices, paganini’s grandma screeched, “play that one off the cigar advert. You know the one. ” luckily, everyone recognises scott joplin’s the entertainer.

Christy canyon appeared in 119 films during her career. She “retired” from the business three different times but kept returning to the screen. During her final years she was exclusive with vivid entertainment. Canyon was discovered while standing on a sidewalk in hollywood, waiting for a ride. That story sounds so typical, doesn’t it? maybe it sounds like the beginning of one of her movies? anyway, a male adult entertainer approached her and told her that she would be a good model and gave her a business card for an agent. Canyon started by posing for some magazines and then moved over to the video making department and a star was born. In 1984 she made her first on screen appearance in swedish erotica 57 with ron jeremy. The two instantly became close friends. I’ll bet they did.

Lil peep had been a fascination for me throughout the past year or so. His general aesthetic, his balance of emo and hip-hop, into something weird and unique, was a taste i was slowly coming to terms with when he died in november at the age of 21 from an overdose. Since then, i haven’t been able to get the hook of “the brightside” out of my mind, his anguished, yet casual, plea: “help me find a way to pass the time / everybody telling me life's short, but i wanna die … everybody telling me not to, but i'm gonna try / now i'm getting high again, tonight. ” despite releasing his debut album this year, peep had a massive following with millions of plays across streaming services. This song remains a haunting reminder of the dangers of depression and drug abuse—one that has become a wake-up call for his many fellow artists and fans.

He remains one of the most influential musicians to hail from the rose city. The only question was which song to pick. This track, from his 1997 album “either/or” describes an unenthusiastic viewing of the annual parade. The lyrics are caustic, the complete opposite of kearney’s. By the song’s end, however, it becomes clear that smith’s unhappiness is not with his hometown, but with himself.

Fast forward to november, and swift is still fighting this same battle over her masters. In a heartbreaking set of twitter messages , swift shared that she was invited to perform at this year's american music awards but is being prevented from singing a collection of her older work because of braun and scott borchetta not allowing her to do so. According to swift, she's allowed to rerecord her earlier music next year but until then can't do so, which includes this amas performance. Tony Clarke - The Entertainer Lyrics

Northern soul tony clarke (died 1970) was an american soul singer-songwriter born in new york city and raised in detroit. He wrote the songs pushover and two sides to every story , hits for etta james. Clarke scored a chart hit of his own with the entertainer which hit #10 r&b and #31 pop in the us in 1965. Clarke died in 1970, too late to see his career see a resurgence in the 1970s on the uk northern soul scene. The intense devotion was given to an obscure chess single, landslide , and a song recorded later in detroit on ms called (they call me) a wrong man. Clarke also had a minor role in t… read more.

Song review by andrew hamilton ralph thomas williams (bka tony clarke) was a talented songwriter as well as singer. In his native detroit he wrote songs with others for artists who recorded for the city's numerous recording companies, which sprouted like dandelions in the '60s. When billy davis (aka roquel) and tyran carlo relocated to chicago to take over chess records' a&r, replacing harvey fuqua, clarke followed davis to chi-town, where he continued to write songs. An opportunity to record resulted in six singles on chess from 1964-1966, with the third, "the entertainer," the sole success. It's the old happy-in-public/sad-in-private theme, with clever lyrics about an entertainer who fools the public but can't fool himself. Hitting with authority, it ended up at number ten on the r&b charts and number 31 on the pop charts, but clarke evidently lacked the drive to hit the road and wow crowds on a consistent basis; he later dabbled in acting. The light tenor singer died by the hands of his wife, who shot him after absorbing what many say was one of clarke's frequent beatings.

Music, Songs & Lyrics

The term vaudeville, adopted in the united states from the parisian boulevard theatre , is probably a corruption of vaux-de-vire, satirical songs in couplets, sung to popular airs in the 15th century in the val-de-vire (vau-de-vire), normandy, france. It passed into theatrical usage in the early 18th century to describe a device employed by professional actors to circumvent the dramatic monopoly held by the comédie-française. Forbidden to perform legitimate drama , they presented their plays in pantomime, interpreting the action with lyrics and choruses set to popular tunes. It eventually developed into a form of light musical drama, with spoken dialogue interspersed with songs, that was popular throughout europe.

Hiring a singer is typically done with one of the following arrangements: background singers will sing backgrounds to your existing vocals. For example, they will double your vocals, sing harmonies or ooh and ahhs. Demo singers will sing the lead vocal part for your song for the purpose of shopping your song to labels or artists. The recording with the demo singer's vocals isn't intended for commercial release, since it's not 'featured'. Demo vocals are intended to showcase your song in the most impressive way possible - with a killer vocal performance. This is important for getting the interest of labels, publishers, or the artist you'd like to record your song, since the vocal performance is prominent in how people listen to music and judge songs. If the vocal melody and lyrics aren't already written when you approach a singer, you might need a topliner or writer to write the part. Many topliners also sing.
