Arguably the biggest show on television in just about every respect, not only is it a huge ratings hit for the network, but it's also just plain huge, spanning dozens of locations, hundreds of characters, and sequences big enough that they look they belong on a movie screen week after week. That means the show is packed with details, and that means some of those details are bound to leave viewers puzzled now and then.

If you think season eight was an anomaly, it just means you hadn't been paying enough attention since season four. The show was never perfect. But it was great for a majority of those first four seasons. Every season had tight character arcs, with phenomenal runs of episodes that will leave you feeling exhilarated if you go back and rewatch them.

But then there were the final season(s). Season 7 was split into two short seasons where too much story was crammed into too few episodes that were too long individually. They had a winning formula and threw it out the window because benioff and weiss were offered things they cared more about. They blew a 3-1 lead. Assistants ended up writing episodes as they took a hands-off approach. Having their star wars movies taken away is the closest we may ever get to justice.

For a time in january 2017, season 8 renewal was put on indefinite hold, due to a disagreement between hbo and the showrunners over the number of episodes it would contain. While originally benioff and weiss stated they intended 7 episodes for season 7 and 6 for season 8, apparently there was some internal pushback that they should make more than six episodes (whether for story reasons or purely business/budget reasons is unclear). No new writers will be introduced: dave hill will write the first episode, bryan cogman the second episode, then benioff and weiss will divide up the remaining four. George r. R. The series wouldn't have been the same without his music: it got to the point where, whenever i heard the distinctive white noise of the hbo logo, my brain immediately expected to hear the opening notes of the game of thrones theme.
