In the final episode of season three, his propensity to see past traditional labels and power dynamics puts rick right in the crosshairs of the president of the united states. Always one for an adventure, rick routinely takes calls from the "most powerful" man in the world because he feels like morty is enamored with the idea of helping his country. However, when even morty realizes that they've basically become the president's intergalactic exterminators, they simply bail on a mission from the commander-in-chief in favor of playing minecraft.

After evil morty ‘s first appeared in “ close rick-counters of the rick kind ”, he instantly became a fan favorite. The idea of an intelligent morty who hates rick captivated fans and kept us wondering what he’d do next. In “the ricklantis mixup”, evil morty becomes a politician in the newly reformed citadel of ricks and demonstrates his new leadership by eliminating a majority of his rick-filled cabinet. Now that he controls the citadel and has killed everyone who knows his past, it’s safe to assume that evil morty is set to cause untold chaos. Even worse, our original heroes know nothing of evil morty’s existence nor of his intentions.

This line is a reference to the season 3 episode "morty's mind blowers," in which it's revealed that rick has removed tons of memories from morty that blew his mind too hard.

EP 10 The Rickchurian Mortydate

Traditional animation takes a really long time. While computer-animated shows like south park can jump on something topical in a week, every episode of rick and morty was written many months ago, if not even longer. A lot has changed in the past year, so watching an episode of a tv show that deals with the office of the president feels … anachronistic? at best? it’s not rick and morty’s fault, of course. But in order for “the rickchurian mortydate” to make any kind of sense, we must assume that the show takes place in a universe in which we still have a president instead of a petulant, narcissistic child with oval office access.

There's a lot to absorb in the twenty or so minutes of any rick and morty episode. And the oct. 1 season finale, "the rickchurian mortydate," proved to be no exception. Whether the sheer volume of jokes per minute, deeper philosophical implications , or emotional arcs , there's a lot you can miss on the first watch. Even the show's co-creator dan harmon recently revealed in an interview that he himself misses a good chunk of easter eggs:.

The preview teaser for "the rickchurian mortydate" suggested that this episode would be framed around rick and morty's efforts to rid the kennedy sex tunnels of a deadly creature. As it turned out, though, everything in that teaser was covered in the first minute or so here. Instead of giving us another "rick and morty accept a mission from the president" tale a la "get schwifty," the writers crafted a conflict where the president himself was the villain. It’s not the only time that a tom cruise movie has been mocked on the series, with edge of tomorrow providing both the title and the general premise of the show's season 4 debut, "edge of tomorty: rick die repeat". Cocktail is, however, definitely the most obscure movie referenced in the episode, although to the credit of the roger donaldson-directed dramedy, it was a success with audiences upon its initial release (if not critics).

Rick and morty season 4 may not be the most consistent in overall quality, but it does boast several of the series' best episodes. Season 4 shows a repeated willingness to think outside the box even as it takes a fairly "back to basics" approach to storytelling. If some episodes wind up feeling under or overdeveloped as a result, that doesn't take away from the hilarity on tap in gems like "edge of tomorty: rick die rickpeat" or the clever anthology approach of "the vat of acid episode. " season 4 also ends in top form thanks to "star mort rickturn of the jerri," a finale that teases even better things to come in season 5.

Fans of adult swim's rick and morty had been counting down the months and days until dan harmon and justin roiland's animated mayhem returned to their screens once more. That wait ended early last month with season premiere "edge of tomorty: rick die rickpeat" (reviewed here ), where we got a crash course in "death crystals" and gained a deeper understanding of just how hard it would be to kill rick sanchez – and keep his dead.

EP 3 One Crew Over The Crewcoo's Morty

The thought of his longtime crush jessica (kari wahlgren) being a significant part of his life is enough to make morty scream until he passes out. That thought will apparently become a reality in rick and morty season 5, as the trailer shows two separate instances in which jessica appears as part of smith-sanchez family adventures. Though she has been seen in missions with the crew before, some were non-canonical and these season 5 moments hold much more weight.

Season 4’s episode 3, one crew over the crewcoos morty, the duo find themselves at heistcon, a massive convention specifically for professional intergalactic thieves. It turns out that morty is hoping to write an incredible heist film for netflix. Rick has other plans for their adventures though. He goes out of his way to make morty disillusioned with the absurdity of heist stories by enacting the greatest and most convoluted heist of all.

Dan harmon has a tradition of working with the same friends on multiple projects, so there are many instances of cast and crew crossing over on both shows. Tony hale, who is best known for playing buster on arrested development represents one of those instances. In the season 1 episode of community entitled "beginner pottery," hale plays a neurotic pottery teacher who can't stand students who do impressions of the pottery scene from ghost. Hale's character in the season 3 episode of rick and morty is a member of the post-apocalyptic deathstalker gang named eli. Eli lives next to summer in shabby suburbia during her brief stay in the mad max-esque universe.

“close rick-counters of the rick kind” remains one of the most popular episodes of rick and morty, and apparently even the cast and crew feel the same way. The badges that were worn by the members of the council of ricks in that episode were actually made into real badges, and given to all of the show’s crew members. It's not hard to see why someone would want one of these badges for themselves, and they're actually fairly easy to find online, which speaks volumes for the rapidly increasing popularity of the show. Now if only they can come up with ways to bring some of ricks inventions to life… i think we all would love to visit anatomy park at least once in our lives.

During their argument, rick and morty bring up a couple of past episodes. Rick brings up "when [he] was a pickle," referring to season 3, episode 3, "pickle rick"--a fan favorite. For the purpose of contrast, rick brings up season 4, episode 4, "claw and hoarder: special ricktim's morty," in which morty's request for a pet dragon culminates in a lot of really awkward sexual stuff, and which is generally considered not a very good episode. Rick even points out that the adventure wasn't particularly well-timed, as it aired months after game of thrones' near-universally-despised series finale.
