Robert rodriguez created this series. However, did you know that he also directed the cult-classic eponymous movie that inspired this tv show? ‘from dawn till dusk: the series’ is a continuation of the horror franchise, but with a western twist to it.
I read the 1987 first edition; this was updated once a decade later, so perhaps some of my criticisms don't apply to that later edition. This volume in any case consists primarily of an alphabetical listing of all american tv western series from 1946 to 1978. It does seem to be complete in it's listing, and i don't think it gets many of the facts wrong; and there seems to be little competition when it comes to a "handbook" sized book on this subject. The fabulous 1950's are considered to be the golden age of television as "watching tv" became a new form of entertainment. As news and other broadcasts transitioned from radio to this new medium during the '50s, many were watching tv for the very first time. However, as tv programming expanded, by the end of the decade most american families had their very own television set in their living room. Sitcoms and comedies were among the best with shows like i love lucy, the honeymooners and i married joan earning high ratings. Later in the decade, westerns became the most popular shows as folks were watching series like rawhide, bonanza and the lone ranger. This exciting decade certainly paved the way for the future of network television.
Tv changed more this decade than it had any time since it switched from black and white to color. From who we watched (people from communities that had never gotten the chance to tell their stories on tv before) to how we watched it (on our phones and via streaming platforms), every part of the tv experience changed. But mostly, there was just more tv this decade, as the most recent golden age of television evolved into peak tv, and networks and streaming services competed in a content arms race to see who could make the most shows the fastest.

In one week in march, 1959, eight of the top ten shows in the ratings were westerns. There were so many to choose from that sometimes the networks ran competing westerns against one another during prime time. But i’m confident enough to say that there’s never been anything like michaela coel’s i may destroy you—a 12-episode british series that is easily the best scripted show you could hope to see this year. The series begins from the perspective of struggling writer arabella essiedu (played by coel, who also wrote every episode and co-directed nine), as she suddenly begins to recall being raped at a bar. But as the show progresses, coel continues to push outward, expanding this half-hour drama into a tapestry of experiences dealing with consent, sexuality, the commodification of one’s own trauma, and the creative process.
the town being built as the movie opens and progresses is quite authentic, showing walls and roofs unfinished, and boards hanging out. I love it when we see mccabe (warren beatty) sewing his shirt. Sewing! when is the last time you saw gene autry or hopalong cassidy or john wayne sewing?.
