- the best tv shows of 2019 so far however, there is another show about a group of quirky friends living in one of the us’s biggest cities that has quietly become a phenomenon in their wake. It eschews both the middle-class minutiae of seinfeld, and the will-they-won’t-they romances of friends – in favour of crystal meth, kitten mittens, and accidental kidnappings. In the process, it’s always sunny in philadelphia has become the best sitcom in the us, tackling everything from gun reform to time’s up with an irreverent, unmistakable lens. It’s also become one of its longest-running – this week the show returns for a historic 14th season, a feat only matched by the rather more wholesome 1950s classic the adventures of ozzie and harriet.

“my legs have always been long. It’s a burden being tall. ”the finest moment of the 13th season is, of course, the end of “mac finds his pride. ” but the second finest might very well be this episode’s motion-for-motion recreation of a scene from seinfeld. Always sunny has forever been compared to seinfeld, and the acknowledgement of this comparison is great. Charlie’s uncanny kramer impression is even greater. But the stroke of pure genius is the doubling up dennis and mac on jerry, dressed identically and moving in unison, as a work-around of the fact that seinfeld has one fewer cast member. It’s too bad this gem of a scene is buried in such a lackluster episode. While the show’s take on the classic clip show format is creative and interesting on paper, the interesting stuff starts too late, spins slightly out of control, and wraps up too quickly. A few more solid minutes of exploration might have worked wonders for this episode. Coming in under time and already padded with clips from past seasons, it’s much too ambitious for the amount of time it gives itself, and it suffers for it.

The 14th season of it's always sunny in philadelphia premieres on september 25, making it the longest-running live action sitcom on american television alongside the adventures of ozzie and harriet. Season 13 concluded with a format-busting extended dance sequence which turned the show on its head: while the gang have experimented with musical numbers before, it's always been in the service of the show's transgressive comedy. This, however, was an earnest moment in which mac (played by series creator rob mcelhenney ) finally found the means with which to express himself and affirm his identity as a newly out gay man.

“the gang” is ramping up the satire for the historic 14th season of “it’s always sunny in philadelphia. ”with this latest season, the fx series has officially tied the record with “the adventures of ozzie and harriet” as the longest running live-action sitcom of all time. For a show that’s been on air for so long and has covered so many hot topic issues, what more could they possibly lampoon? “even more satire,” kaitlin olson (who plays dee) told variety at the show’s red carpet premiere at the tcl chinese theater on tuesday night.

Video 1 when a tv comedy hits season 8, it's only natural to think about shaking things up. And apparently, the producers of fx's charmingly crass bar comedy " it's always sunny in philadelphia " agree, because they're getting rid of the entire paddy's pub gang and bringing in high-profile replacements like haley joel osment and andrew "dice" clay. Well, not really -- but a hilarious promo for the new season of "sunny" (premiering october 11) wants you to think that.

Let’s face it: the 13th season of it’s always sunny in philadelphia is unlikely to go down with many fans as worthy of being classed as the show’s best era. There was plenty of disgruntlement before it even kicked off over the tiresome will-he-won’t-he? circus surrounding dennis’ presence in this most recent block of episodes , which tested the patience of even the most die-hard sunny viewer. And once season 13 finally got under way back in early september, the result of the show’s 18 months away from our screens was, well, a rather mixed bag: moments of razor-sharp satire (‘time’s up for the gang’) one week were scuppered elsewhere by a reliance on the tired and hackneyed “oh, isn’t charlie clumsy?” shtick (‘charlie’s home alone’). Even the show’s affectionate tribute last week to the philadelphia eagles’ triumph at the 2018 super bowl (‘the gang wins the big game’) fell disappointingly flat. Had always sunny finally lost its touch?.

It’s always sunny in philadelphia debuted back in 2005. The story behind the development of it’s always sunny is as humble and improbable as they come. You’ll likely never hear again of what was essentially a home movie being turned into a pilot, which impossibly was greenlit, and which would last for nine seasons (so far), become the cornerstone comedy hit of a now successful network, and also become the first sitcom ever to get a cable-to-cable syndication deal (reruns of the fx hit play on comedy central). There was no focus testing. No lighting. No big stars. There weren’t even small stars. It was just three struggling actors goofing off, and it was transformed into comedy gold.

That paired with fx chairman john landgraf's statement to deadline about how fx was "actively talking" to some of the cast about another season for the show had fans excited at the prospect of a 15th season so it's nice to have the record-breaking season confirmed. It's always sunny is a show about a gang of friends — mcelhenney, charlie day, kaitlin olson, danny devito, and glenn howerton — and their going-ons in the city of philadelphia. The show airs on fxx and is produced by fx productions, rcg entertainment and 3 arts entertainment. While the new season has been announced, it's unclear as to when fans of the show can expect episodes to begin airing, but considering it's on the slate of fx programming through 2021, we at least know it will air within the next tv season or so.
